LOVING IN DEED
Referring to Matthew 25:35-36, Brennan Manning says:
“Surrounded by people who are hungry and thirsty and naked in their souls, they come to us hungry for understanding, thirsting for affirmation, naked with loneliness, and wanting to be covered with the mantle of our genuine concern.”
We have a growing number of shut-ins and elderly members here at Christ Presbyterian Church!
Will you help us serve those who have faithfully served us through the years? Many of these people have been part of our church from the very beginning and are now unable to attendour worship services.
You could do one or any of the following:
• Give them a phone call
• Deliver a video of the Worship Service
• Visit
• Take a meal
• Send a card
If the Lord has touched your heart to minister in some small way to come of these faithful servants, please call the Shepherding Center (301-3507) to discuss the possibility of being part of a team to truly “love in deed.”
Another option would be to join The Cream Team.
This is a ministry to the residents of assisted and extended care facilities who receive few or no visitors.
Why is this a wonderful way to serve the aging?
• One to one relationship
• Gifts of mutual conversation, connectedness, and compassion with those who receive few or no visitors
• Multigenerational – all ages can participate.
• Convenient and on your own schedule
• Choose a location close to you and go alone or with other Cream Team members
• Receive supplies and a Cream Team apron
• Opportunity for training or helpful printed material to help you get started
• Optional Cream Team member luncheons or on-line updates and opportunities to share experiences.
“I had the great joy of visiting Gertrude at the nursing home once a week until she died this summer. She was 98 years old and very sharp. We would talk and laugh and sing hymns and pray together. Through our conversations, I learned a lot about this incredible woman who loved the Lord.”
“By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.”
I John 3:16-18
