The operations of Christ Presbyterian Church and Academy are managed through the Support and Services ministry team, with the provision of both financial and human resources.

A question and answer with Tom Price, Chairman of the Support and Service Ministry Team:

What is the purpose of the Support and Service Team?
The purpose of the Support and Service Team is to align Christ Presbyterian Church’s resources with our objectives. That means all of our resources, not just finances. Volunteers, facilities, staff and other resources are all part of what can be used to help us be efficient and effective in our ministry efforts.

How does the Support and Service Ministry Team
operate and who serves on it?

Our team works with the other ministry teams to insure they have the resources they need to carry about their objectives in terms of people, funds, facilities and other necessary items.

What has been the focus of your team’s efforts in recent months?
We have been working on a strategic plan and the budget for 2009-2010, which we are now calling the Resource Plan. We are overseeing the capital campaign and development of funding for on-going facilities needs. We are also overseeing the development of a stewardship program for the entire church. George Brantly chairs a committee that has been developing a complete stewardship education plan for the church in terms of a standardized format for communicating church finances, and providing teaching materials for the new member class, officer training, Sunday School classes and small groups.

How is our church doing financially?
We are ahead by a small amount, for which we are very grateful. Our giving has exceeded our resources requirement since July. We generally do a very good job of controlling expenses. That is usually not an issue. The issue is more our approach to giving. The church typically receives 20% of its annual giving in the last month of the year. People take inventory and see how they did for the year and feel more confident sharing from what God has given them in response to pleas for giving at the end of the year.
We are looking forward to a new understanding of stewardship through the stewardship education plan and expect that it will challenge and motivate us all to become hilarious givers who recognize that everything we have comes from God and find joy in giving consistently throughout the year.

What has the Human Resources Committee been doing in regard to staff?
Over the last eight months, the HR committee has been interviewing all of the staff members of the church, assisting with writing and re-writing job descriptions and putting an evaluation process in place for all of the ministry areas of the church. There have been job descriptions and evaluations done in the past at CPC, but not consistently. We want our leadership and staff to have clear and up-to-date job descriptions as well as a plan that aligns with their job descriptions. It is important for people to know how they are progressing in contributing to the ministry of the church, and that can only be done by sitting down and taking inventory through an evaluation. Evaluations and plans are also helpful for charting a course for the future, so that staff members can be confident they are concentrating on what needs to be accomplished.
